50 people killed and 76 injured in two highway crashes in southeastern Afghanistan.
According to a government spokesman on Thursday, two highway crashes in southeastern Afghanistan resulted in the deaths of 50 people and injuries to 76.
Hafiz Omar, a spokesman for the governor of Ghazni Province, reported that one incident involved a collision between a passenger bus and an oil tanker on the Kabul-Kandahar highway late Wednesday.
The second crash occurred in a different area of the same highway, which connects the Afghan capital to the south.
Omar stated, “The injured have been taken to hospitals in Ghazni, and authorities are working on repatriating the bodies to families. Patients in critical condition have been transferred to Kabul, including women and children among the casualties.”
Survivor Abdullah Khan, receiving treatment in a Ghazni hospital, recounted, “I got off the bus and heard moaning. There was blood everywhere, with some people sustaining head injuries and others injuring their legs.”
Due to poor road conditions and driver negligence, traffic accidents are frequent in Afghanistan.
