Former President Jimmy Carter was honored with an official state funeral at Washington National Cathedral on Jan. 9. He passed away on Dec. 29 at the age of 100, making him the longest-living president in U.S. history.
He was laid to rest in his home state of Georgia.
Carter served as the 39th president of the United States from 1977 to 1981. He was a recipient of the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize for his dedication to seeking peaceful resolutions to global conflicts, his strong advocacy for democracy and human rights, and his efforts in promoting economic and social progress.
Prior to his presidency, Carter, a former peanut farmer from Georgia, had served as the governor of the state from 1971 to 1975 and was an officer in the U.S. Navy.
