Agreement Reached Between US and Colombia Prevents Tariffs from Being Levied
The United States and Colombia have reached an agreement where Colombia will now accept all Colombian illegal immigrants being deported by the United States, including those transported on U.S. military planes, as confirmed by the White House.
Leavitt mentioned that with this agreement in place, the United States will keep the 25 percent tariffs, announced by President Donald Trump earlier that day, on hold, “unless Colombia fails to honor this agreement.”
She added that although the tariffs and sanctions were fully drafted, they had not been signed yet.
On Sunday, the leaders of Colombia and the United States were on the brink of a tariff war, with Colombian President Gustavo Petro responding to President Donald Trump’s announced 25 percent tariff with a demanding 50 percent tariff of his own.
