Air Canada to Offer Direct Flights from Toronto to Mumbai

Air Canada will soon be offering non-stop flights from Toronto to Mumbai as it expands its service to India.

The airline said it would also add daily flights from Montreal to Delhi and seasonal daily flights over London Heathrow, adding 40 percent more seat capacity on flights to India starting in October.

That brings the number of weekly flights from Canada to India to 25, Air Canada said in a June 3 news release.

“India is an important market for Air Canada, reflecting longstanding and growing family and trade ties between our two countries,” Air Canada executive VP of revenue and network planning Mark Galardo said.

“We are thrilled to expand our network to Mumbai and Delhi by building additional scale at our hubs in time for Diwali festivities this fall,” he added.

Flights from Toronto to Mumbai will run on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays starting Oct. 27. Return flights will operate on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, according to the release.

Air Canada has been bouncing back since the pandemic when it saw passenger numbers drop dramatically due to government restrictions.

The airline catered to 36.14 million passengers in 2022, up from 13.19 million in 2021. Passenger numbers jumped again in 2023 to 44.79 million.
The additional flight announcements follow recent reports that Air Canada was ranked the worst-performing airline in getting its flights to arrive on time in 2023. It was also ranked low for customer satisfaction.

Only 63 Air Canada flights landed on time last year, with approximately 140,000 planes arriving more than 15 minutes late at the gate, according to data from analytics firm Cirium.

Another survey found the airline ranked below other major North American airlines when it came to customer satisfaction.

Air Canada placed last in both business class and premium economy, a poll by consumer analytics firm J.D. Power found. In the economy class, Air Canada was ninth out of 11.
