Air France Flight Diverted to Iqaluit Due to Cabin Odor Caused by Heat
A plane traveling from Paris to Seattle had to make an emergency landing in Iqaluit due to a heat smell in the cabin during the flight.
Air France stated in an email that the Boeing 787 was redirected to Nunavut’s capital and landed just before noon local time on May 7. The aircraft carried 260 passengers, three pilots, and nine cabin crew members.
The airline mentioned that technical checks were being conducted on the plane to decide whether it could proceed to Seattle or if passengers needed to be rerouted.
“Air France apologizes for the inconvenience caused by this situation and emphasizes that the safety of its customers and crews is its top priority,” the statement read.
A spokesperson for the Nunavut government confirmed that no damage or injuries were reported. Weichien Chan mentioned in an email that the Iqaluit Airport Authority was collaborating with the airline to offer assistance.
The Iqaluit International Airport is situated adjacent to the city and boasts one asphalt runway.
