Alberta Man Arrested for Fentanyl Trafficking and Firearm Possession After Drug Raid
Authorities in Alberta have charged a resident from Cochrane with multiple offenses related to drug trafficking and firearms possession after a significant drug operation in Calgary led to the confiscation of $150,000 worth of fentanyl and five firearms.
On April 16, Calgary Police Service executed a traffic stop, apprehending the driver and seizing 22 grams of fentanyl, 18 grams of crack cocaine, and two cellphones.
Following this, police conducted searches of two residences in Calgary, uncovering large quantities of drugs, weapons, and a taser.
A search at a Cochrane apartment yielded 1.5 kilograms of fentanyl, 11 grams of unidentified pills, and 161 grams of an unknown white powder.
Additionally, several firearms were confiscated, including a loaded handgun with a 3D-printed receiver and a glock slide reported lost in Ontario, along with three rifles, a shotgun, approximately 1,170 rounds of ammunition, and two prohibited firearm magazines.
The operation led to the arrest of Jacob Seal, 29, from Cochrane, who faces charges including two counts of possession of a controlled substance for trafficking, two counts related to possession of prohibited devices, one count of possession of a loaded prohibited firearm with ammunition, and one count for unauthorized possession of a firearm.
“The confiscation of these drugs and firearms has certainly averted considerable harm to our community,” stated Acting Staff Sergeant Jake Debolt from the Calgary Police Service District 4 General Investigations Unit. “We are dedicated to working with our law enforcement partners to shield Calgarians from the severe consequences of drug trafficking and the violence it invites.”
A secondary examination of a commercial transport vehicle led to the arrest of Arshdeep Singh, 26, a Calgary resident, who was charged with importing a controlled substance and possession for the purpose of trafficking.
“Preventing dangerous drugs from entering Canada is part of the CBSA’s commitment to ensuring the safety of our communities and streets,” remarked Ben Tame of the CBSA. “This significant seizure underscores the crucial work carried out by our border services officers, who are dedicated to securing and protecting our borders in collaboration with the RCMP and the Calgary Police Service.”
On January 18, CBSA officers found 42 kilograms of cocaine, valued at over $1 million, in another commercial truck headed for Calgary. Both drivers were arrested and taken into custody by Alberta RCMP.
