Alberta Premier Places High Stakes on Stanley Cup Wager With Texas Governor for Ribeye Stake
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has placed another friendly wager on the Edmonton Oilers as they gear up to face off against the Dallas Stars in the NHL Western Conference finals.
Following their victory in Game 7 against the Vancouver Canucks, the Oilers are now headed to Dallas for their first game against the Stars on May 23.
Premier Smith has reached out to Texas Governor Greg Abbott to propose a bet on the upcoming hockey series.
“If the Oilers emerge victorious against the Stars, you must enjoy and showcase the delightful taste of an Alberta rib steak in a video while praising its excellence. However, if by some slim chance the Stars come out on top, I will do the same,” she explained.
Ms. Smith had previously made a similar wager with B.C. Premier David Eby during the Oilers’ series against the Canucks.
“In this vast democracy known as Canada, we often put our differences aside to unite. However, British Columbians and Edmontonians will have to temporarily set aside their mutual dislike for the Calgary Flames to celebrate hockey triumph,” Mr. Eby wrote on X on May 4. “Game on!”
As of May 21, Governor Abbott had not yet responded to the challenge.
Ms. Smith’s comment comes just two months after her visit to Texas where she was fostering relationships between the energy sectors of the two regions.
“Today, I toured the Seaway Port managed by Enbridge and Enterprise Products alongside Minister Brian Jean. Alberta is committed to expanding our production capacity and collaborating with dependable partners to make this vision a reality!”
On March 19, she participated in the CERAWeek energy conference in Houston in an effort to enhance Alberta’s energy industry.
The next day, she attended another function aimed at attracting investments to Alberta.
