Alberta Premier to Miss In-person Inauguration Ceremony due to Venue Change
Due to the bitter cold weather forecasted for tomorrow in Washington, D.C., Alberta Premier Danielle Smith will not be attending president-elect Donald Trump’s inaugural ceremony on Monday.
Smith, who is currently on a diplomatic trip in Washington for five days, was originally scheduled to be in attendance.
However, her press secretary, Sam Blackett, released a statement stating that most ticketed guests, including Smith, will no longer be able to attend the ceremony in-person as it has been moved indoors to the Capitol Rotunda.
Blackett mentioned that the premier still intends to participate in an event at the Canadian Embassy on Monday.
Smith has been engaging with political and energy industry leaders during her time in Washington in an effort to foster a “era of partnership.”
Earlier in the week, Smith diverged from her fellow premiers and the prime minister by refusing to sign a joint statement declaring that all countermeasures, including energy exports, are on the table in response to Trump’s threat of imposing tariffs on Canadian goods.
