Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, an Entrepreneur, Replaces Haiti Prime Minister after Dismissal
Haiti’s new leader is Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, the son of a former political prisoner who was jailed by the regime of Jean-Claude ‘Baby Doc’ Duvalier.
Haiti’s transitional presidential council has removed the prime minister, Garry Conille, and appointed entrepreneur and former senate candidate Alix Didier Fils-Aimé in his place.
Despite being a development specialist and former UNICEF regional director for Latin America and the Caribbean, Conille, who was appointed prime minister at the end of May, was unable to address the country’s ongoing issues with law and order.
Due to the escalating violence, the transitional council has replaced 58-year-old Conille with Fils-Aimé, who was previously considered for the position.
Fils-Aimé’s mother was detained for 10 years during the 1971–1986 rule of Jean-Claude “Baby Doc” Duvalier, who took over from his dictator father, François “Papa Doc” Duvalier.
As per Fils-Aimé’s LinkedIn page, he attended Boston University’s School of Management and served as CEO of Hainet, a Haitian internet service provider, from 1999 to 2012.
