Anita Anand Steps Up as Transport Minister Following Pablo Rodriguez’s Departure from Cabinet
Treasury Board President Anita Anand will assume the role of transport minister this afternoon, following Pablo Rodriguez’s resignation from cabinet to pursue the Quebec Liberal leadership.
A government source, who was not authorized to speak publicly, mentioned that Anand will be sworn in at a small ceremony at Rideau Hall.
Public Services and Procurement Minister Jean-Yves Duclos will take on the position of the government’s new Quebec lieutenant, although he is not expected to attend the ceremony as it is not an official role in the cabinet.
This morning, Rodriguez announced his departure from cabinet and the federal Liberal caucus, opting to serve as an Independent member of Parliament until January when the Quebec Liberal leadership race officially begins.
While serving as an Independent, Rodriguez intends to focus on his own vision but plans to align with the Liberals on a non-confidence motion next week.
