Auditor Finds Quebec Auto Insurance Board’s IT Overhaul Leads to Slower Service and Higher Costs

Following a $1.1-billion overhaul of the information technology system at Quebec’s auto insurance board, service has become slower and more expensive, according to the province’s auditor general in a report released today.

Despite expecting significant cost savings with the introduction of the new online portal, SAAQclic, the provincial board responsible for enforcing the Highway Safety Code has seen an increase in service delivery costs two years after its implementation.

Auditor Guylaine Leclerc highlighted that it now takes 20% longer to provide services like issuing driver’s licenses under the new system. Additionally, her report pointed out that Quebecers were more inclined to use the older online services compared to the new portal, which ended up costing $500 million more than initially estimated.
