Australia extends tariff relief to Ukraine
Treasurer Jim Chalmers reiterated Australia’s solidarity with Ukraine and pledged to support its economy.
Australia will extend tariff relief to Ukraine to show unwavering support following Russia’s invasion.
During a meeting with Ukrainian Finance Minister Sergii Marchenko on April 18, Treasurer Jim Chalmers discussed Australia’s ongoing assistance.
The exemption from duties will be prolonged by two years until July 3, 2026, for all goods made in Ukraine.
In a joint statement, Mr. Chalmers and Trade and Tourism Minister Don Farrell announced that tariffs on Ukrainian goods, previously up to 5 percent, will now be reduced to zero.
“Australia is committed to supporting Ukraine’s economy and its international trade engagement in the aftermath of Russia’s invasion,” stated the ministers.
“The tariff relief is just one part of Australia’s $960 million support package for Ukraine, including $780 million in military aid.”
Mr. Chalmers conveyed to his Ukrainian counterpart that the tariff relief demonstrates Australia’s unwavering support.
Ukraine’s finance minister also highlighted the potential for enhanced economic collaboration between the two countries in a post on X (formerly Twitter) featuring a picture with Australia’s treasurer.
“Ukraine and Australia have immense potential for economic cooperation across various sectors,” he commented.
