Australian Prime Minister Emphasizes Small Businesses in Budget, Highlights Solar Energy as a Wise Investment
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is committed to putting Australia’s 2.5 million small business owners at the forefront of the upcoming May 14 budget. The Labor government is gearing up to announce its energy bill policies in response to criticisms from Opposition Leader Peter Dutton.
Albanese will emphasize the importance of rooftop solar and batteries as a smart investment for businesses operating on tight margins. He will speak at the Council of Small Business Organisations of Australia (COSBOA) on April 4 to reassure the business sector of his government’s pro-business and pro-worker stance.
Albanese will highlight the impact of Labor’s cost of living measures from the previous year’s budget, which helped alleviate pressure on families and small businesses. Additionally, he will address concerns raised by Dutton about Labor’s renewable energy policies and offer alternatives to drive competition and productivity.
The Prime Minister will defend his government’s industrial relations legislation, which faced backlash in 2023 for being deeply flawed. The bill includes changes to workplace laws, criminalizing wage theft, and addressing gig economy working conditions.
Australian Treasurer Jim Chalmers has indicated that the budget strategy will focus on targeted cost-of-living relief rather than cash splashes. The government will continue to prioritize social security and welfare spending, including investments in the national disability insurance scheme (NDIS).
