Australia’s First Lunar Rover Being Developed for Moon Mission with NASA
The Australian government has allocated $42 million for a plan to launch a mission to the moon later this decade.
Australia has chosen a team to build the nation’s first lunar rover to send to the moon. The goal is to send this rover with the support of the Australian Space Agency and NASA.
The federal government is providing $42 million for the project, known as “Roo-ver.” ELO2, a consortium of 21 companies and research partners, has been selected to deliver the rover after an 18-month design process.
Industry and Science Minister Ed Husic emphasized that this mission is not just about making history but also about advancing technologies for Australia’s future.
Robotics and automation are expected to bring significant benefits to Australia’s economy, with projections of $170 billion to $600 billion per year by 2030.
The Australian Space Agency is focusing on establishing a sustainable human presence on the moon in the coming decades. Roo-ver showcases Australia’s capabilities in major international space missions.
The ELO2 Consortium, led by Warwick Penrose, is honored to be part of this historic project, aiming to build and operate an Australian rover on the moon.
