The forecast calls for over 200mm of rainfall in eastern NSW and southeast Queensland from April 4 to April 6, with beaches around Melbourne’s Port Phillip Bay already polluted from days of heavy rain.
Premier Steven Miles emphasized the need for caution and vigilance, reassuring the community of Queensland’s readiness for any challenges posed by nature.
The Darling Downs, Granite Belt, and Maranoa in Queensland’s southwest are expected to experience heavy rain and storms, further necessitating preparedness and awareness among residents.
The Bureau of Meteorology warned of potential falls between 20mm to 50mm due to widespread shower activity, with some areas like Charleville, Roma, and Dalby likely to exceed 100mm of rainfall.
Flash flooding is a concern for already saturated regions, with flood watches issued for various river catchments as the weather system progresses towards the NSW coast.
The NSW State Emergency Service advised communities to take precautions ahead of deteriorating weather conditions, with preparations including cleaning gutters, securing loose items, and trimming trees and branches.
