BC Conservative Leader Discusses Energy and Education in Podcast Interview
B.C. Conservative leader John Rustad believes that British Columbia should engage in a “conversation” regarding nuclear power’s role in the province’s energy future. He also emphasizes the need to review educational materials, which he claims are tailored for the “indoctrination” of children.
During a recent episode of Canadian psychologist Jordan Peterson’s podcast, Rustad expressed his desire to eliminate the carbon tax, stating that it pushes people towards poverty in an attempt to alter the weather futilely.
In their discussion on the podcast lasting over an hour and 45 minutes, Rustad and Peterson covered various topics, including rejuvenating the B.C. Conservative Party as an election contender, energy and education policies, and the concept of “cancel culture.”
Rustad criticizes B.C.’s education system for instructing children on “what to think” instead of fostering critical thinking skills. He believes that some educational materials are more focused on indoctrination than equipping children with essential skills.
The conservative leader deems the former B.C. Liberal party’s ban on nuclear power as “crazy” and emphasizes the necessity for reevaluating this position. He relates high energy costs to lower living standards, proposing a reconsideration of nuclear technologies like small modular reactors.
The B.C. Conservative Party continues to finalize its slate of candidates as BC United leader Kevin Falcon withdrew from the race last month. He urged the public to rally behind Rustad to defeat David Eby’s NDP in the upcoming provincial election in October.
