BC Crews Continue to Battle Approximately 350 Wildfires as Wildfire Update Planned

Today, the update on the wildfire situation in British Columbia will be provided by the minister of emergency management, as some areas cool off while others continue to flare up.

Bowinn Ma and Forests Minister Bruce Ralston will be presenting alongside provincial staff to discuss the current wildfire trouble spots in B.C.

The BC Wildfire Service reports that recent rainfall and seasonal temperatures have calmed the fires in many parts of the province, reducing fire behavior in several major incidents.

In B.C.’s southeast region, four wildfires of note are causing concerns with evacuation orders and alerts issued for various communities.

There are approximately 350 active fires in B.C., down from over 400 last week, but nearly half of them are still not under control.

The wildfire service notes that about 90% of these active fires were started by lightning storms that passed over the province in recent weeks.

The number of personnel fighting the fires has also increased significantly in the past two weeks, now totaling just over 1,500 individuals.
