BC Man Accused in Air India Bombing Acquitted After Court Document Reveals ‘Hired and Paid’ Assassins
Court documents in the case of two men who murdered British Columbia businessman Ripudaman Singh Malik in 2022 suggest they were “hired and paid” to carry out the killing.
Although the agreed statement of facts does not reveal the identity of the person who hired them to kill Malik, who was acquitted in 2005 in a B.C. court of the Air India bombings that took the lives of 331 individuals in 1985.
The statement provided by the BC Prosecution Service states that Tanner Fox and Jose Lopez collaborated to murder Malik, using a stolen car that they later set ablaze after shooting the victim while he was in his Tesla on July 14, 2022.
It details how Fox and Lopez visited the Surrey complex owned by Malik the day prior to the murder to “scope out the location” for a few minutes.
The statement goes on to describe how Fox and Lopez fired a total of seven shots at Malik’s vehicle when he arrived for work in Surrey, B.C., resulting in his death and causing nearby individuals to seek shelter during the shooting.
Both men initially faced first-degree murder charges but recently pleaded guilty in B.C. Supreme Court to second-degree murder, with a sentencing date expected to be set at a hearing in New Westminster on Thursday.
