BC Premier David Eby Honours Wager With Alberta Premier After Canucks-Oilers Bet
After two weeks, B.C. Premier David Eby fulfilled his bet with Alberta Premier Danielle Smith regarding the Edmonton Oilers’ success in the Stanley Cup.
The premiers wagered that the loser of the Edmonton Oilers-Vancouver Canucks Round 2 matchup would have to read a statement in the legislature while wearing the opposing team’s jersey.
Since the legislature was closed, Mr. Eby opted for social media. He appeared in an Oilers jersey on June 3, acknowledging his loss.
Despite the Canucks’ efforts, they lost Game 7 to the Oilers on home ice on May 20.
The Oilers advanced to the finals after defeating the Dallas Stars with a 2-1 victory in Game 6.
Mr. Eby voiced his support for the Oilers, referring to them as “Canada’s team,” as they prepare to face the Florida Panthers.
The statement Mr. Eby read on behalf of Ms. Smith highlighted Alberta’s successes in hockey and took jabs at other teams’ performance.
The statement closed with Mr. Eby acknowledging historical wins by British Columbia teams in the early 1900s.
Both premiers shared their camaraderie on social media, promoting unity as they support the Oilers in the upcoming Stanley Cup Finals against the Florida Panthers.
