Biden reaffirms unwavering support for Israel’s security on the eve of Passover
President Biden highlighted the challenges faced by families with loved ones still captive by Hamas during this year’s Passover.
U.S. President Joe Biden reiterated his strong commitment to Israel’s security and its right to exist as an independent Jewish state ahead of the Passover holiday.
Passover symbolizes the liberation of Jews from Egyptian slavery. President Biden acknowledged the pain felt by families with relatives held captive by Hamas during this Passover.
The president assured that efforts are underway to secure the release of the hostages and to negotiate a ceasefire in Gaza to provide humanitarian aid to Palestinians.
Hamas’ attack on Israeli territory in October 2023 resulted in numerous casualties and hostages. The ongoing efforts to secure the release of hostages include arranging a temporary halt in hostilities in exchange for their freedom.
In his statement, President Biden expressed the U.S.’s dedication to working towards a two-state solution that offers security and peace to both Israelis and Palestinians.
Following Iran’s recent missile attacks on Israel, President Biden, along with other international partners, supported Israel in intercepting the majority of the projectiles. The U.S. also directed its military to assist Israel in defending against Iran’s attacks.
President Biden strongly condemned acts of antisemitism and called for speaking out against such behavior, particularly on college campuses. He emphasized the importance of standing against the alarming rise of antisemitism in all forms.
Protests at Columbia University have demanded a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and an end to U.S. military support for Israel. They have also called for the university to divest from companies benefiting from Israel’s actions.
