Blanchet Warns Bloc MPs of Consequences for Involvement in Foreign Meddling
Bloc Québécois Leader Yves-François Blanchet asserts that any member of his caucus involved in foreign interference will face consequences for their actions.
Mr. Blanchet is in the process of obtaining the necessary top secret-level security clearance to access a classified report from the National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians.
The intelligence oversight body, which consists of MPs and senators, recently stated in a public report that some parliamentarians are knowingly or unknowingly aiding foreign states in meddling with Canadian politics.
After reviewing the report, Mr. Blanchet vows to take action against any Bloc MPs engaged in foreign interference and encourages other federal party leaders to do the same.
During a press briefing on June 18, he emphasized that a G7 country’s Parliament cannot tolerate MPs influenced by foreign hostile powers.
However, Mr. Blanchet clarifies that he will not follow the approach of NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh and Green Party Leader Elizabeth May in publicly discussing the unredacted watchdog report.
