Blinken announces increased US aid for Ukraine in response to renewed Russian attacks
We will continue to support Ukraine with the necessary equipment to achieve success and victory,” stated Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken revealed a $2 billion fund to aid Ukraine, as Russian forces escalate their attack on the country.
Mr. Blinken disclosed the foreign military financing during a press conference in Kyiv with Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.
The aid is a part of a unique defense enterprise fund and consists of three components. The first component will provide immediate weapons to Ukraine, the second will invest in the country’s defense industry to enhance its production capabilities, and the third component will help Ukraine purchase military equipment from other countries, not limited to the United States.
This announcement follows the approval of a $61 billion aid package for Ukraine by lawmakers in Washington last month.
The State Department has been contacted by The Epoch Times for additional comments.
Thousands Evacuate Kharkiv
Mr. Blinken visited Ukraine as Russian troops advanced further into Kharkiv, leading Ukraine to issue evacuation alerts to thousands of residents.
According to Oleh Syniehubov, the governor of Kharkiv Oblast, Russian forces are approaching the town of Vovchansk, located about three miles from the Russian border.
Russian forces also attacked areas in the north near the Sumy region, hitting multiple communities on Wednesday, as reported by the Sumy Oblast Military Administration on Telegram.
During the press conference, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kuleba emphasized the importance of timely supplies to the country, stating delays result in setbacks on the front line. He urged the international community to provide new announcements and fulfill promises of financial and military aid to Ukraine.
Mr. Kuleba highlighted the significance of adequate supplies for Ukrainian soldiers in achieving victory.
‘Renewed Brutal Russian Onslaught’
Mr. Blinken acknowledged Ukraine’s urgent need for additional support over two years into Russia’s invasion, especially in Kharkiv.
The recent financial aid, including the $61 billion package, is crucial at this time, according to Mr. Blinken.
He mentioned the senseless attacks on civilians and residential buildings by Russian forces, and emphasized Washington’s commitment to providing aid to Ukraine swiftly.
Mr. Blinken reassured that the U.S. supports Ukraine in defending its freedom, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, while continuing to supply necessary equipment for success and victory.
