British Columbia Couple Finds Hidden Wall Stuffed with Plush Toys, Transforms Discovery into Act of Kindness

After discovering a hidden stash of over 100 stuffed animals behind their wall, a couple from British Columbia is giving these nostalgic plush relics a new home by sending them to collectors and childhood nostalgists worldwide.

While removing drywall in their Vancouver Island garage, woodworker Connor Nijsse stumbled upon numerous stuffed animals tucked into the wall for insulation. Intrigued, he continued to dismantle the wall while his wife filmed, revealing even more plush toys. Their video, shared on social media on Oct. 27, quickly went viral.

The assortment of soft toys includes teddy bears, lions, chicks, bunnies, and more.

“We can’t believe all these were hidden in the walls,” Nijsse exclaimed in a video posted two days later, showcasing close-ups of the neatly arranged stuffed animals on a table. “Do you recognize any from your childhood?”

The video garnered several comments, with some viewers identifying some of the stuffed animals from their childhood and sharing memories, while others expressed interest in purchasing them.

“I had that pink doodle bear in the top right corner when I was a kid. I remember my mom got one for my birthday when I was like 7 or 8,” commented one viewer.

“My heart is aching. I used to have the cat with the plastic face and the kittens that came out of the velcro belly! Wish I could find one these days,” another viewer shared.

One touching comment led the couple to consider shipping the plushies. A viewer from Guelph, Ont., revealed that as a child, she had patched up her yellow duck stuffed animal with bandages after it lost its fluff—only to discover one day that her mother had disposed of it without informing her.

“The first one is headed to Guelph to bring joy to a child,” Nijsse announced in a video capturing his visit to the post office.

About a week later, the viewer shared a video unboxing a pair of duck plushies. “This is going to be emotional, I didn’t expect it to be so emotional,” she expressed. Towards the end of the video, her two daughters can be seen hugging the stuffed animals.

In his most recent video posted on Nov. 6, Nijsse showcased some of the latest shipments. These included a brown bear destined for Indiana for a viewer who had the same toy in childhood, a pink elephant for a Las Vegas resident collecting pink elephant plushies, and two stuffed chicks for a viewer in the UK.

The final package featured a bear with pink paws and blue eyes, dispatched to a South Carolina resident. This resident noted that the bear held sentimental value as it had been with her since birth, but she sadly lost it during a move a few years ago.

“That was my bear since birth,” she expressed in the comment.
