British Columbia Man Found Guilty of Child Exploitation in Connection with Global Pornography Operation

A man from British Columbia has been found guilty for participating in an international online group focused on trafficking child pornography.

The RCMP division of the province stated in a release that 34-year-old Joel Andy Daigle from Surrey was accused of child exploitation in April 2020 and has been given an 18-month conditional sentence to be served in the community.

Authorities mentioned that Mr. Daigle has also been subject to a 20-year order under the Sex Offender Information Registration Act, with specific conditions concerning his interaction with children under 16.

The RCMP was informed in November 2018 about an undercover operation conducted by a police officer in North Carolina, posing as a 14-year-old girl to infiltrate a messaging group involved in sexual exploitation of children and trafficking of pornography.

U.S. law enforcement mentioned that the detective identified members of the group globally, including in British Columbia, and the RCMP carried out a search warrant at Mr. Daigle’s residence in April 2019.

The RCMP disclosed that 23 individuals have been arrested worldwide, with the group’s leader being sentenced to 65 months in prison in North Carolina.
