Byelection in Ontario Riding Formerly Represented by Erin O’Toole Takes Place Today
A federal byelection is scheduled for March 4 in the Ontario riding of Durham to fill the seat left vacant by former Conservative leader Erin O’Toole.
Erin O’Toole was the official Opposition leader from August 2020 to February 2022 and resigned from his seat last spring. He was initially elected as a member of Parliament in 2012.
Jamil Jivani, a lawyer and commentator, is running for the Conservatives to succeed Erin O’Toole.
The Liberals have chosen Robert Rock, a councillor in Scugog, Ont., as their candidate.
Initially seeking the Conservative nomination, Robert Rock decided to run for the Liberals as he felt that the Conservative party no longer aligned with his values.
The NDP have nominated Chris Borgia, president of the Durham Region Labour Council.
The Durham riding, which includes part of the city of Oshawa, Ont., has been under Conservative representation since 2004.
