Calgary Police Seek Person of Interest in Tesla Fire Cases

Calgary Police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a “person of interest” in connection with two separate incidents of Teslas being set on fire in the city on March 18 and 19.

These incidents are believed to be linked to individuals expressing displeasure with Tesla and owner Elon Musk’s political involvement.

Calgary police stated that the person of interest may have valuable information regarding the two incidents.

The individual is described as a man in his 30s, with a bulky build, standing approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, with brown hair and brown eyes. The man was reportedly wearing a purple T-shirt, a blue hat, and a black jacket.

According to the police report, the first incident occurred on March 18 between 9:30 p.m. and 11 p.m.

A white 2023 Model Y Tesla was parked at a charging station near the owner’s residence at 9:30 p.m. The owner later received a notification that the vehicle was no longer charging, and upon inspection, discovered the car on fire, as per a police press release.

The Calgary Fire Department responded to the fire and extinguished it after receiving the owner’s 911 call.

Authorities indicated that evidence at the scene suggested the fire was deliberately set using an accelerant.

The second incident occurred on March 19, with Calgary police responding to a fire around 9:50 p.m. at a storage lot.

Police suspect that a gray 2025 Tesla Cybertruck was intentionally set on fire.

Police recommend that Tesla owners who park in insecure areas activate sentry mode, which uses the vehicle’s camera system to record any suspicious activity and notify the owners.

On March 19, approximately 80 Tesla vehicles at a Hamilton dealership were vandalized with deep scratches and punctured tires, as reported by the police statement.

In another incident on March 17, emergency services in London, Ont., responded to a Tesla on fire in a parking lot. The 2025 4-door black Tesla S suffered significant damage estimated at around $140,000.

The Vancouver International Auto Show announced the removal of Tesla from this year’s event due to security concerns, prioritizing the safety of employees, attendees, and exhibitors.
