Calls for Sex Education Programs to Stop After Year 9 Students Witness Bestiality and Incest
A minister in South Australia (SA) has requested a stop to all third-party sex education programs in schools following reports of students being exposed to inappropriate topics like bestiality and incest during a recent classroom presentation.
Renmark High School in the Riverland area of SA faced criticism after parents complained about a respectful relationship session held for Year 9 girls on March 22.
What Occurred?
Girls were asked to attend an unsupervised hour-long session in a separate classroom without parental consent. The presenter, sent by mental health clinic Headspace Berri, discussed sexual preferences using explicit language and explained LGBTQIA+ terms, including bestiality and incest.
“We were all shocked and uncomfortable learning about animals having sex with humans,” said student Courtney White.
“Isn’t this illegal?” questioned a student, noting that the LGBTQI+ community supposedly endorsed such topics. Some students felt so uneasy during the session that they had to make excuses to leave.
‘Not an Isolated Incident’
Ben Hood, Shadow Assistant Minister for Regional South Australia, expressed concerns about the incident and called for the suspension of third-party providers delivering sexual and respectful relationship content in schools until a full investigation is conducted.
In a public statement, he urged the State Education Minister to take immediate action to prevent such incidents from happening again.
School Principal’s Apology
The principal of Renmark High School issued an apology to parents, acknowledging the discomfort caused by the session. The presenter in question has been suspended while an investigation is ongoing.
Education department officials condemned the session, stating that there should have been a teacher present to supervise the discussion.
