Canada Revenue Agency to Terminate Contracts of 450 Term Employees Ahead of Tax Season
As tax filing season is in full swing, the Canada Revenue Agency has notified 450 of its term employees nationwide that their contracts will not be renewed by the end of the month.
Etienne Biram, a spokesperson for the agency, stated that the CRA routinely assesses its financial resources to ensure sustainable operations and alignment with government priorities.
Biram mentioned that employee unions have been informed of the reductions, and the agency is working to minimize the impact on taxpayers during the filing season.
As part of the government’s spending review, federal departments and agencies, including the CRA, announced in November 2024 that they were implementing measures to find savings, such as restricting certain hiring activities, freezing non-critical overtime, and terminating the contracts of approximately 600 temporary employees.
Biram emphasized that the CRA is continuously evaluating its financial position while upholding its commitment to providing high-quality service to Canadians, especially during the tax season.
The deadline for most Canadians to file their taxes is April 30.
