Canada Spends $9 Million on New York City Luxury Condo for Consul General’s Official Residence

Canada has invested $9 million in a luxury condo in Manhattan to serve as the official residence for its consul general in New York.

Global Affairs Canada explains that the previous New York City residence purchased in 1961 does not meet the department’s standards and is not up to code, but they have not disclosed its future use.

The deed for the new condo indicates a sale price of over $6.6 million USD and the buyer listed as “His Majesty the King in right of Canada.”

The buyer’s title has sparked speculation in New York real estate circles, with some wondering if King Charles himself acquired the luxury property.

The unit in Steinway Tower, located near the southern edge of Central Park and known as the world’s thinnest skyscraper, features three bedrooms and four-and-a-half bathrooms.

It includes a wet bar, a powder room adorned with jewel onyx, and ample space for entertaining—as Canadian officials increase their efforts ahead of the upcoming U.S. election.
