Canada to Conduct Haiti Evacuation Flight Next Week Following Last-Minute Requests
Canada has organized an additional evacuation flight out of Haiti next week due to a surge in requests to leave the Caribbean nation.
Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly announced on X that officials had seen a sudden increase in last-minute pleas for assistance.
Joly stated that another flight will be scheduled in the upcoming week.
Despite initial plans for the third government-organized flight on April 7 to be the final one as Canada scaled back its evacuation operations in Haiti, plagued by rampant gang violence and shortages of essential supplies, an extra flight has been arranged to address all concerns.
During a funding announcement event in Montreal, Ms. Joly assured that the additional flight would address everyone’s needs.
Earlier this week, Global Affairs Canada reported that it had facilitated the departure of over 250 Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and their close relatives from Haiti.
