Canada’s Swimmer Summer McIntosh Claims First Medal at Paris Olympics

Summer McIntosh, a Canadian teenager, won her first Olympic medal, a silver in the women’s 400 metres freestyle on Saturday. Despite this achievement, she had little time to celebrate as she had to quickly get back into the pool at La Defense less than an hour later.

At the Tokyo Games three years ago, McIntosh narrowly missed out on a podium finish and came in fourth at just 14 years old. Now, at 17, she is a four-time world champion and holds the world record for the 400 individual medley.

Her talent shone on the Olympic stage as she gave Australia’s Ariarne Titmus a tough competition for the gold and finished ahead of American swimmer Katie Ledecky in what was called the women’s “Race of the Century.”
