Candidate from One Nation Advocates for Establishment of Conservative, Right-Wing Alliance to Forge Friendship
After the Australia First Alliance was announced to bring unity to the country’s right-wing parties, One Nation Victoria’s President Warren Pickering is urging fellow right-leaning parties to collaborate where policies align. He emphasized that One Nation will advocate for capping migration visas at 130,000 per year to alleviate pressures on housing, wages, and infrastructure, citing numerous areas where policies coincide.
Pickering expressed the potential for collaboration by stating, “We could be their best friends, help them win seats, and hold them accountable in the Senate with the balance of power. However, they need to be willing to work with us, which they have not shown evidence of yet,” he told The Epoch Times.
The ongoing issue within Australia’s right-wing has been the proliferation of minor parties (around 10) vying for the same voters, often conflicting with the center-right Liberal Party rather than the center-left or left.
On the contrary, the Greens and “teal” independents on the left edge of the spectrum are more cohesive in directing their preferences to influence electoral outcomes.
Amidst this backdrop, Pickering highlighted One Nation’s focus on deporting illegal immigrants, curbing cheap foreign labor, and addressing energy costs and youth crime. The party aims to promote more gas, uranium, and coal production, advocating against net zero emissions.
Focus on Energy and Youth Crime
Regarding the Australia First Alliance, Pickering’s comments coincide with the alliance’s formation aimed at unifying various right-wing parties in the country.
The Australia First Alliance includes the NSW Libertarian Party, the HEART Party, and the Gerard Rennick People First party running a joint Senate ticket in New South Wales while maintaining individual branding for lower house candidates.
Their Senate ticket includes Craig Kelly (Libertarian), Michael O’Neill (HEART), a candidate from Gerard Rennick People First, and candidates from the Libertarian and HEART parties.
