CCP’s Covert Tactics in Canada: Tire Slashing and Wire Tapping
Picture this scenario. It’s late at night and you’re struggling to sleep, feeling like someone is watching you. You recently criticized the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and now you’re receiving threats, both subtle and direct. As you finally start to drift off, the phone rings. Is it the CCP coming for you or your family?
This is the reality for many Chinese Canadians, even on Canadian soil.
The new report from SecondStreet.org, “Investigating the Chinese Government’s Harassment of Chinese-Canadians,” highlights this issue. By collecting stories from cultural and religious groups, as well as outspoken members of Canada’s Chinese community, we found 26 individuals who bravely shared their experiences of CCP targeting.
Their stories speak volumes. One common theme is the CCP’s preference for threatening phone calls and digital harassment, such as cyber attacks and social media shadow-banning.
In addition to digital threats, some respondents were also targeted in person, facing surveillance, monitoring, and even physical harm.
One unsettling tactic revealed in the research is the CCP’s willingness to target family members and friends of Chinese-Canadians living in China, causing fear and distress.
This behavior is unacceptable in a democratic country like Canada. The CCP’s history of human rights abuses is well-documented, making it essential for Canada to protect its citizens from foreign intimidation and harassment.
Through initiatives like a foreign agent registry and raising awareness of this issue, Canada can take steps to safeguard its people. By sharing these stories, we shed light on a serious problem and urge policymakers to take action.
To prevent communist-style surveillance and harassment in our country, we must address this issue head-on.
