Ceremony to Commemorate Humboldt Broncos Bus Crash with Sod-Turning Event
A sod-turning ceremony is scheduled for Saturday morning at the site of the tragic Humboldt Broncos bus crash in Saskatchewan.
A committee made up of the players’ families, board members of the junior hockey team, city councillors, and others is ready to move forward with the initial phase of constructing a permanent memorial at the crash site to honor the victims.
The first phase will include site preparation, such as earth moving, and the establishment of pathways and a sitting area.
The City of Humboldt has announced that details of a proposed monument at the site will be disclosed before the end of the year.
In 2018, a truck driver ran through a stop sign and collided with the hockey team’s bus at a rural intersection near Tisdale, Sask.
Sixteen individuals on the bus lost their lives, and 13 were injured.
