Certain Claimants Compelled to Abandon Lawsuits Against AstraZeneca
Twelve individuals who were injured or lost loved ones due to the AstraZeneca vaccine have withdrawn their claims following the release of a leaflet by the company in April 2021 warning about the rare occurrence of blood clots.
These individuals were part of a class action lawsuit against AstraZeneca, but the company successfully argued that the risk of blood clots was known at the time of vaccination. As a result, 12 claimants were advised that their cases were unlikely to succeed if they continued to pursue legal action because of the information provided in the leaflet issued by AstraZeneca.
One of the individuals affected by this decision is Gareth Eve, whose wife, BBC radio presenter Lisa Shaw, passed away due to complications from the vaccine. Despite this setback, Mr. Eve remains determined to seek the support deserved by all affected individuals.
In a related development, AstraZeneca has reportedly acknowledged in court documents that its vaccine can result in blood clotting issues, including thrombotic thrombocytopenia, which has been linked to several deaths. However, the company maintains that these adverse effects can occur independently of vaccination, a claim disputed by the claimants.
Leaflet Described Clots as ‘Very Rare’
AstraZeneca highlighted a patient safety information leaflet released in April 2021 that warned about the potential for rare blood clots following vaccination with its COVID-19 vaccine. The document stressed the importance of recognizing the risk of blood clots that could lead to severe consequences or death.
Legal representatives involved in the case believe that the presence of this leaflet could shield AstraZeneca from liability in cases where individuals received their doses after April 7, 2021. Despite the challenges faced by some claimants, others like Vikki Spit, who lost her partner after vaccination, remain committed to seeking justice.
The complexities surrounding the leaflet’s information and the timing of vaccine delivery have led to some claimants dropping out of the lawsuit due to technicalities. However, individuals like Ms. Spit continue to pursue legal action in hopes of holding the pharmaceutical company accountable for the damages caused by the vaccine.
The legal proceedings are being pursued under the Consumer Protection Act, highlighting the argument that the vaccines were not fit for their intended purpose.
