Christian Educator Found Guilty of ‘Unacceptable Professional Conduct’ for Declining to Teach ‘LGBTQI Ideology’

A teacher warned that Christian teachers must not only be silent about their beliefs, but they must actively promote LGBT ideology or risk being severely punished.

A teacher at a Church of England (CofE) secondary school, Glawdys Leger, was informed by authorities that she was guilty of “unacceptable professional conduct” after she refused to teach “extreme LGBTQI ideology”.

Ms. Leger, who had been teaching at the school for 12 years, expressed her beliefs to students during a discussion on LGBT issues, stating that “God believes humans are born male and female and that LGBTQI practice is sinful.”

The materials for Religious Education (RE) included introducing children in Year 7 to gender identities such as pansexual, asexual, intersex and transgender. Ms. Leger had been sacked in May 2022 for refusing to teach these lessons.

On Thursday, the Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) ruled that the teacher was guilty of “unacceptable professional conduct” but stopped short of banning her from teaching indefinitely.

Ms. Leger said she was relieved “to not be banned from teaching in the UK,” but expressed concern that teaching Christian beliefs in a Christian school during an RE lesson was deemed as unprofessional conduct.

She further warned that any Christian or religious school should be transparent with parents about the ideologies being pushed on their children without their permission or knowledge.

Andrea Williams, chief executive of the Christian Legal Centre, stated, “Regulatory bodies are creating an oppressive environment for teachers which chills the atmosphere and prevents the expression of Christian faith in schools and any alternative or balancing viewpoint to LGBTQI+ ideology.”

Reverend Calvin Robinson commented that being a Christian in a Christian institution is a sackable offense and stated that Glawdys is being persecuted for her faith. He criticized the school for reporting her to the TRA and the CofE for pushing “harmful ideologies on children via the new RSE curriculum.”

The Epoch Times contacted CofE, The Department of Education and Aquinas Trust for comment.
