Christy Clark, Former BC Premier, Opts Out of Liberal Leadership Race

Former B.C. premier Christy Clark has announced that she will not be seeking the federal Liberal leadership.

In a message to her supporters, Clark explained that she feels there is not enough time in the leadership race for her to run a successful campaign and revitalize the party.

Additionally, she mentioned that despite putting effort into improving her French language skills, she still struggles to effectively communicate with francophone Canadians in their language.

Clark’s decision comes shortly after she retracted her statement claiming that she was never a member of the Conservative party.

During an interview with CBC Radio, Clark initially denied being a party member and supporting former Quebec premier Jean Charest in the 2022 Conservative leadership race that saw Pierre Poilievre elected.

She later admitted that she misspoke in the interview and clarified that she had endorsed Charest to prevent Poilievre from winning.
