Comedian Issues Apology to Olympian ‘Raygun’ Following Legal Dispute Regarding Musical Title
Breaking The Musical, formerly known as Broadbridge’s breakdance musical, will continue as legal issues have been resolved.
The comedian who created the “Raygun” musical publicly apologized to Olympic breakdancer Rachael “Raygun” Gunn after facing legal threats and a $10,000 bill, leading to the project’s shutdown.
Stephanie Broadbridge confirmed that the show’s title and promotional materials will be changed, with any references to Raygun being removed.
Addressing her 12,000 Instagram followers, Broadbridge expressed regret over the negative attention Raygun received due to the musical’s cancellation, which was inspired by the athlete’s name, silhouette, and Olympic performance.
In her apology, Broadbridge clarified that she never intended to mislead the public or involve Raygun in the production.
She admitted to failing to contact the Olympian before creating the poster and show title, leading to confusion about Raygun’s involvement.
“It was never my intention to mislead people into thinking that she was involved in the production,” Broadbridge stated.
Raygun Speaks Out on Misinformation
Raygun responded to the controversy in a heartfelt Instagram video, expressing relief that the issue had been resolved amicably.
Raygun acknowledged the circulating misinformation, explaining that the $10,000 costs demanded were a preventive measure and not an actual payment request.
“It’s been a big couple of weeks … but I’m really pleased to say that we’ve resolved everything,” she said.
Raygun clarified that there were no costs sought from Broadbridge despite her legal team initially sending a letter and wished the comedian success with her revamped musical.
She also addressed the hurtful comments she received during the ordeal, thanking her supporters for their positivity.
Expressing empathy for Broadbridge, she recognized the criticism the comedian had faced as well.
“It’s never been my intention to cause any hurt or distress,” Raygun said.
Broadbridge Moves Forward with New Show
Following the apology and resolution of the legal matter, Broadbridge announced that her breakdance-inspired musical would proceed under the new name “Breaking The Musical,” with fresh title and visual materials for promotion.
Expressing relief at resolving the conflict, Broadbridge acknowledged the fallout from the situation, while Raygun, fresh from her Olympic performance, reiterated her gratitude for the support she received throughout the ordeal.
In conclusion, Raygun made a lighthearted comment about the online criticism she faced, especially after receiving low marks in her Olympic breakdancing performance.
“I really want to say thank you to my supporters who have reached out with messages of positivity and kindness, especially when online has just been so awful,” she remarked.
