Concerns over Mould Contamination Cause Recall of Sunscreen Foundation
Canadians using foundation doubling as a sunscreen should check their cosmetic bags to see if their brand has been recalled for potential mould contamination.
“Out of an abundance of caution, we have decided to voluntarily recall [eight additional lots] even though all original and recent test results received back are clear,” Suntegrity Skincare said, adding that no calls about adverse reactions had been received by the company at the time the recall was initiated.
Six out of seven shades—ivory, nude, buff, sand, bronze, and mocha—are impacted by the recall. Tan is the only shade of the facial sunscreen with no recalled lots.
The company is advising all customers to immediately stop using the moderate coverage CC cream if it is on the recall list.
Skincare products contaminated with mould could potentially cause an allergic skin reaction, the company said, adding that rashes and other reactions typically clear up after cleansing the skin and discontinuing use of the product. If applied to an open wound or sunburned skin, the product could cause a primary fungal skin infection.
Anyone who purchased one of the recalled products can email the company with their order number, product lot number, name, and a photo of the tube to receive a refund, the skincare company said. Customers will also have the option to choose a store credit or an exchange for the company’s 5-in-1 Tinted Sunscreen plus a free gift.
