Conrad Black: The Decline of ‘Wokeness’ Tyranny is Inevitable

The recent positive reception of President Trump’s video address at the Davos conference signals the decline of wokeness, political correctness, and other oppressive measures in the name of diversity, equity, and climate change. This long-standing tyranny is now crumbling, as many have predicted.
Future historians will analyze the sudden collapse of Western society due to intense self-criticism and self-hate. The period post-World War II saw a consensus in Western civilization favoring democratic states, free elections, and individual freedoms, which led to the formation of the Free World.
Despite initial challenges from communist regimes like the Soviet Union and China, the strategy of containment pursued by the Western Alliance was ultimately successful. The disintegration of the Soviet Union and the collapse of international communism marked a significant strategic victory for the West.
However, following this victory, new challenges emerged, with climate concerns being co-opted by the political left as a means to attack capitalism. This shift led to increased regulations and costs aimed at reducing fossil fuel usage.
President Trump’s recent denouncement of the “Green New Deal” as a “Green New Scam” during his speech on Jan. 23 provided a refreshing perspective on the climate movement. As public opinion turns against the excessive costs of climate initiatives, it appears that this crisis is beginning to subside.
In Canada, unfounded accusations of cultural genocide and systemic racism have surfaced, creating unnecessary divisions and fostering a sense of moral arrogance. Similarly, in the United States, new charges of racist oppression have emerged, despite significant efforts toward equality.
As societies begin to reassess these exaggerated claims of guilt and oppression, the authoritarian practices of enforcing guilt are starting to dismantle. The prevailing sentiments against green terror, wokeness, racial privilege narratives, and unmeritocratic outcomes are being challenged by a growing majority in the United States and will likely influence similar movements in Canada.
