Conservatives Fail to Secure Any Seats in Wales
Labour has overwhelmingly won the majority of seats in Wales, marking a significant loss for the Conservatives, their worst in 23 years.
The Conservative Party faced a complete wipeout in Wales, as Labour regained several crucial seats.
Out of the 32 available seats, Labour secured 27, while Plaid Cymru obtained four MPs and the Liberal Democrats claimed one seat.
Under the leadership of Sir Keir Starmer, Labour took notable seats like Monmouthshire, Vale of Glamorgan, Bridgend, and Wrexham.
Following Boris Johnson’s 2019 victory which saw them hold 14 seats, the Conservatives lost all of their seats in Wales, losing around 18 percent of the general votes in the process.
The Conservative campaign in Wales was significantly impacted by Reform UK, which garnered close to 17 percent of the total vote.
Despite winning 45 percent more seats than in the previous election, Labour actually garnered 4 percent fewer votes compared to 2019.
Andrew Davies, the Welsh Conservative leader in the Senedd, expressed disappointment over his party’s comprehensive loss in Wales.
“In Wales, Welsh Conservatives have a strong track record in our communities at all levels of government. And we are committed to rebuilding our party leading up to 2026. Step one: Stop taking loyal Conservative voters for granted.”
David Davies, the Secretary of State for Wales, had represented Monmouth since 2005 and served as the Welsh secretary since October 2022.
Former ministers Alun Cairns, Stephen Crabb, Fay Jones, and Rishi Sunak’s former parliamentary aide Craig Williams all lost their seats.
Gething stated, “After fourteen long years, we are beginning a new chapter for Wales. Your Welsh Labour Government will have a true partner in Keir Starmer as we forge the fairer, greener future Wales deserves.
Two Labour governments collaborating for a stronger Wales within a fairer Britain.”
The last time the Conservatives failed to secure any seats in Wales was in 2001.
