Conservatives Stand Against Liberal Tax Reforms, Particularly Concerned About Capital Gains Tax Adjustment
The Conservatives have announced their opposition to new tax measures proposed in the Liberal budget.
This statement comes shortly before the House of Commons is scheduled to vote on a Liberal motion to increase capital gains tax for Canadians profiting from asset sales.
Prior to June 11, the Conservatives had not revealed their stance on the capital gains adjustment.
The Liberals argue that this change is necessary to ensure wealthier Canadians pay their fair share, labeling it a “fairness tax.”
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre expressed concerns in a statement, stating that the tax adjustment would impact farmers, small businesses, and doctors rather than billionaires.
He proposed the creation of a “tax reform task force” within 60 days of assuming the role of prime minister to simplify tax regulations, lower taxes, and reduce corporate subsidies.
