Consumers Warned After Coroner discovers Man’s Death caused by E-Bike Explosion
A tragic incident resulting in the death of a young man from Queensland has been attributed to the use of an incorrect charger for his e-bike. The Coroner’s Court of Queensland investigation revealed that the man, identified as Tyson, likely died from a violent explosion caused by using the wrong charger for his second-hand e-scooter.
Tyson had recently acquired a Zero 10 electric scooter without a charger and borrowed a fast charger from a friend. Unfortunately, the charger was not compatible with his scooter, leading to the fatal incident.
On the night of the incident, Tyson connected the charger to his e-scooter at his grandmother’s residence, where he and his partner Jade were staying. A short while later, an explosion occurred, causing severe burns to Tyson’s body.
Jade, who was pregnant at the time, managed to escape the flames and seek help while Tyson attempted to extinguish the fire. Tragically, Tyson suffered extensive thermal injuries and passed away the following day.
Further investigations revealed that the explosion was a result of using a mismatched charger that supplied higher voltage than the e-scooter could handle. The report highlighted the risks associated with lithium-ion batteries, urging people to use compatible chargers and take precautions while charging electronic devices.
