Czech Republic and Poland urge EU to increase efforts to combat illegal immigration.
Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala and Poland’s Donald Tusk emphasized the need for the European Union to take more decisive action during a meeting in Prague. Fiala stated that the recent reforms to the EU’s asylum system are insufficient and require stricter measures. Both leaders condemned the renewal of border checks within the EU, advocating for stronger protection of the external borders to minimize illegal migration.
Tusk echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding outside borders and reducing illegal migration. He criticized the practice of relocating illegal migrants within Europe and highlighted the challenges faced at the Poland-Belarus border due to President Lukashenko and President Putin’s actions.
Germany recently implemented increased border controls in response to extremist attacks carried out by illegal migrants. This move has sparked tensions with neighboring countries like Poland. Despite efforts to strengthen internal security, issues around joint financing for defense within the EU have strained relations.
Overall, the focus remains on enhancing border security and combatting illegal migration, with both Czech and Polish leaders calling for greater EU action in this regard.
