Defense Ministry Official Warns of New Ukrainian Attacks in Kursk, Russia
Putin’s aide dismisses the possibility of talks with Kyiv due to Ukraine’s ongoing offensive in the Russian border region, as stated by a top Defense Ministry official Apty Alaudinov on Aug. 19. Russian forces in the Kursk region are preparing for further attacks following multiple waves of assaults over the weekend.
Alaudinov mentioned, “Yesterday was challenging as we faced several enemy attacks. Today, we observe the enemy shifting to another area in Kursk to launch attacks from a different direction.”
Despite the situation being “controllable,” Russian forces in the region remain vigilant and prepared. This comes after thousands of Ukrainian troops, supported by tanks and artillery, launched an offensive into the Kursk region.
About 18,500 square miles in size, Kursk shares a border with Ukraine’s Sumy region. Since the offensive began on Aug. 6, Kyiv claims control over around 480 square miles of Kursk territory, including 92 settlements, a claim disputed by Moscow. Russian forces have later acknowledged the presence of Ukrainian troops within Russian territory.
