Dental-Care Program Reaches Milestone of 1 Million Patients in First Six Months, Coverage Continues to Expand
Health Minister Mark Holland reports that one million Canadians have received care through the federal dental-care plan within six months of the program’s launch.
Starting this Friday, the program will expand to cover more complex procedures.
This means individuals with coverage under the federal program can now request pre-authorization for services such as crowns and the initial placement of partial dentures.
Paper claims will also be accepted, allowing more dentists to participate in the program, according to Holland.
Holland states that eighty-nine percent of oral health providers in the country are offering some form of care under the program.
The program is currently accessible to seniors, adults who qualify for the federal disability tax credit, and children under 18.
