Disney Announces Exciting New Theme Park and Cruise Plans amidst Decrease in Visitor Numbers

Fans of Disney theme parks have been informed about several exciting new projects that the company has in store for the next few years.

This announcement follows lower visitor numbers at the parks, despite the company’s streaming service turning a profit for the first time earlier this month.

At a D23 presentation in Anaheim, California, on Aug. 10, the company announced plans to invest approximately $60 billion in parks and cruises over the next decade.

Upcoming projects include a villains-themed land, an “Encanto” ride, an experience to fly like Iron Man, and advanced audio-animatronic technology to bring Walt Disney to life before guests.

New attractions will expand the existing “Big Thunder Mountain Railroad” ride, with one themed to villains and another to Pixar’s “Cars” movie, both slated for 2025.

Furthermore, a new nighttime parade named “Disney Starlight” is set to debut at the Magic Kingdom next summer.

The Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and Disney’s Hollywood Studios park will introduce a new “Monstropolis” land inspired by the “Monsters Inc.” franchise.

Both parks will also see expansions in Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge, including themes with the Mandalorian and Grogu, set in the Millennium Falcon Smuggler’s Run.

Disney has also confirmed the 2027 opening of the Tropical Americas area at Disney’s Animal Kingdom park, featuring the first-ever “Encanto” ride based on the hit movie and an “Indiana Jones” ride located in the former Dinosaur ride building.

The Disney cruise line will add four more ships by 2031 to its existing fleet of five, with details on the new ships yet to be disclosed.

Other parks like Shanghai and Hong Kong Disney will get Spider-man-themed Marvel rides, Disneyland Paris will have a new attraction based on “The Lion King,” and Tokyo Disneyland will feature new nighttime shows.
