Disney to release Bluey’s first-ever movie on the big screen in 2027
In 2023, Bluey’s cultural impact was so strong that its episode ‘Cricket’ outshone the Australia men’s cricket team winning the World Test Championship.
Recently, BBC Studios and The Walt Disney Company revealed that Bluey, the beloved animated series, will debut on the big screen in 2027.
Disney has obtained global theatrical rights for the film, which will premiere in cinemas before being available for streaming on Disney+.
The film, created by Joe Brumm, will follow Bluey, a lively blue heeler pup, and her family on new adventures.
Produced in collaboration between Ludo Studio and BBC Studios, the movie promises to maintain the same charm and humor that made the series a global hit.
Brumm expressed his excitement for the move to the big screen, aiming to create a family experiential event for everyone to enjoy together.
The upcoming film will feature the familiar voices of Melanie Zanetti and David McCormack as Bluey’s parents, Chilli and Bandit Heeler, along with the return of composer Joff Bush.
Renowned animation producer Amber Naismith, known for Happy Feet and The Lego Movie, will produce the film, with Richard Jeffery co-directing.
Bluey’s international success has driven the decision to create a film adaptation, with record-breaking achievements in the United States.
In 2023, Bluey was the second most-streamed TV show in the U.S., according to Nielsen ratings.
Bluey’s themes of play, imagination, and family continue to captivate audiences worldwide, showcasing Australian culture and charm globally.
