Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu Reunite After Almost Four Years
Former President Donald Trump met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at his Mar-a-Lago residence on Friday, marking their first meeting since Trump left office in January 2021.
During the meeting, Trump assured reporters of quick outcomes if he wins, warning of potential major wars in the Middle East and a third world war if he doesn’t.
Trump also expressed solidarity with Israel in light of recent terrorist attacks and promised to work towards peace in the Middle East and combat anti-Semitism on college campuses in the U.S.
The last time the two leaders met was at the White House in September 2020 for the signing of the Abraham Accords, brokered by Trump.
Earlier in the week, both President Biden and Vice President Harris met with Netanyahu at the White House. They did not attend Netanyahu’s speech to Congress.
In his speech, Netanyahu praised Trump’s support for Israel, especially regarding the Abraham Accords, which normalized relations between Israel and Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates.
Netanyahu’s speech sparked protests, including flag burnings and displays of support for Hamas. In response, Harris condemned these actions.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries also denounced the protests and expressed support for Israel’s defense against threats like Hamas and Hezbollah.
After meeting with Netanyahu, Harris emphasized Israel’s right to defend itself but expressed concerns about human suffering in Gaza.
She stressed the importance of how Israel defends itself and discussed the situation in Gaza with Netanyahu.
