During White House visit, Zelenskyy reveals McCarthy’s proposal for increased Ukraine aid
The White House has requested an additional $24 billion to aid Ukraine in its conflict against Russia.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) informed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Sept. 21 that he and other lawmakers are likely to support additional assistance for Ukraine in response to Russia’s ongoing invasion, according to the Ukrainian leader.
“He said that they will be on our side—it’s not simple—that they will support,” he said, as reported by the publication.

Mr. McCarthy, along with other GOP lawmakers, has publicly expressed reservations about whether to continue providing billions of dollars in aid to Ukraine while the ongoing conflict with Russia persists.
Meanwhile, the White House has requested an additional $24 billion to support Ukraine in its fight against Russia amidst its counteroffensive.
As the Sept. 30 government shutdown deadline approaches and federal funding is set to run out, Congressional lawmakers have so far been unable to reach an agreement on the aid.
Concerns, Confusion Over Ukraine Aid
On the same day as Mr. Zelenskyy’s White House visit, more than 20 Republican lawmakers, led by Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) and Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas), wrote a letter to the White House opposing President Biden’s request for an additional $24 billion in aid for Ukraine.
